Salary Range:  Pay Grade F

 

 

General Responsibilities and Goals:

To assist the teachder in meeting the intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of autistic students.

 

Relationship:

The autism mentor is directly accountable to the principal and teacher to which assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Must have attained a high school diploma or equivalent, show a sincere interest in working with children, be able to communicate appropriately with adults and children, be willing to participate in in-service.
  2. Meet the qualifications of "Aide III" as delineated in West Virginia Code 18-A-4-8.
  3. Certication as Autism Mentor required.
  4. Successful completion of a staff development program related to autism as determined by the State Department of Education.
  5. Two years of successful experience working with autistic students to attain autism mentor status.
  6. Physical ability and stamina necessary to complete all job tasks, including tasks related to ensuring student safety.

Terms of Employment:

Substitute personnel work as needed through out Preston County Schools.

2.  Work Duties and Performance

  • Tutor students as instructed.
  • Reinforce concepts presented by teacher.
  • Work with small groups and individuals as directed.
  • Assist teacher in supervision of students.
  • Prepare instructional materials.
  • Operate equipment.
  • Help with paper work.
  • assist in housekeeping.
  • take care of physical needs of students, as directed.
  • Assist bus operators and teachers in meeting special needs of students.
  • Ride bus/supervise students as assigned.

3.  Professional Development

  • Attend in-service and job-related training programs.
  • Work toward skill improvement and efficiency.
  • Complete required college training to attain Autism Mentor status.
