Description: The Dean of Students is an education professional who is responsible for the academic progress of students. He/she promotes good attendance rates and ensures school safety and the prevention of school violence.
Qualifications:
- Valid WV teaching certificate
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Master's Degree preferred
- Administrative certificate preferred
- Minimum of ten (10) years teaching experience required
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience working with at-risk or special needs students
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school distract are not eligible for consideration.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate instructional leadership to enhance school effectiveness by improving instruction and augmenting student achievement.
- Demonstrate knowledge of feedback and support to improve instruction; analyze a variety of educational data to focus on student achievement; guide teachers in their professional growth; and facilitate a climate that is conducive to student learning and development.
- Collaborate with school administration and School Improvement Specialist to further the mission and goals of the school.
- Serve as school testing coordinator for any national or state assessments.
- Maintain parent communication as appropriate.
- Attend to student problems in cooperation with Principal, Counselors, Social Service Workers, Attendance Coordinator, the Special Education Director and other staff.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Contact parents about student problems.
- Maintain and periodically review student discipline records.
- Identify students with attendance issues or disciplinary problems and address those issues with parents to create a positive outcome.
- Work with counselors and staff to establish development plans for those students showing signs of academic struggle.
- Work with administrative staff to maintain school discipline plan.
- Keep administrative staff informed on all activities.
- Foster environment conducive to learning.
- Implement strategies that will motivate and inspire students to succeed and stay in school.
- Communicate effectively with the educational community, parents, and supplemental agencies, as necessary.
- Responsible for coordinating and conducting SAT meetings.
- Participate in Professional Development activities as required by the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
