Salary:  $20.00 per hour.  Position dependent upon grant funding.

 

Budget Source:  21st Century Community Learning Center Grant(s)

 

Employment Term:  June 12 through the end of the 2017-2018 grant cycle, not to exceed 52 hours for the grant cycle.  This is a grant funded position.  Position contingent upon student enrollment.

 

The purpose of the grant is to improve parent and student achievement to ensure that families receive the highest educational opportunities and achievement possible.

 

Position Goals: For the duration of the Summer Gardening Program, students will learn about their community with a variety of hands-on learning activities.  Beginning in June/July/ August with 8 hour staff training before the program starts, 3 hours direct instruction- 1 day per week (Wed.), also includes additional hours to be used for planning, record keeping, documentation, program maintenance, and program marketing.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or TASC.
  • Preference given to those who have previous Gardening experience.
  • Ability to use Junior Master Gardner's curriculum.
  • Excellent ability to complete computerized and paper documentation and complete all tasking on time.
  • Experience working with students in grades K-8 preferred.
  • Experience with instructional technology and multi-media equipment (e.g. computers, Power Point, White Boards, Smart Boards, Hand held computers, Google docs) preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with and relate to children, school staff, volunteers, families and community members.
  • Experience working with at-risk children, children with disabilities and children who are low SES.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification preferred.
  • Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration.
  • Satisfactory past evaluations and references.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Site Coordinator with daily operation of ASE Summer Gardening Program at the school site.
  • Assist Site Coordinator to secure subs in the event that instructors are not available.
  • Assist Site Coordinator to provide dynamic and exciting direct instruction and constant supervision to students enrolled in the ASE summer gardening program.  Initiate use of Junior Master Gardner’s curriculum.  Utilize pre-testing, lessons and post-testing to monitor gains.  Provide documentation with reports.
  • Assist Coordinator to collect and maintain records of attendance, student sign in and out sheet and snack/meal counts on master spreadsheet and upload reports to program director weekly for June/July/ August data.
  • Assist Coordinator to email reports to Program Director by August 15.
  • Assist Coordinator in recruiting and schedule volunteers to help with summer program.
  • Assist Coordinator to provide enrollment forms.  Verify completion and maintain student enrollment forms on all students enrolled in program.  Verify that all forms are complete.  Provide copies of all forms to Project Director as necessary for Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Ensure students are receiving a well-rounded, multi-faceted education during ASE Summer Gardening Camp. Maintain adequate Instructor scheduling to meet proper teacher student ratio.
    Collaborate and schedule grant partners, special presenters and volunteers to provide enrichment and assist with programming.
  • Assist Coordinator with collaborating and schedule participants parents or designated family representative to help during ASE Summer Gardening Camp.
  • Provide direct instruction as outlined in curriculum to concentrate on Summer Gardening Program including tutoring to students as needed, enrichment as aligned with the 21st Century College and Career Readiness Standards and recreation to promote overall health and wellness..
  • Assist Coordinator with verifing that Activity Reports are completed after each session.  Email copies of Activity Reports to the Program Director by August 15.
  • Assist Coordinator with completing and submitting accurate personal time sheets per PCS calendar that include date, time worked, and brief, detailed narration of work completed as well as personal lesson plans.  First time sheet will include lesson plans from previous week(s) as well as plans for the following pay period.  Subsequent time sheets will include plans for following pay period.  Plans and time sheets will be submitted to the Program Director.  Check for accuracy.
  • Assist Coordinator in conducting 1 ASE Summer Camp fire drill during program period.  Provide documentation of drill to Program Director.
  • Monitor and provide documentation for student progress in ASE Summer Gardening Program.
  • Complete program post assessment survey with students.
  • Collaborate and document contact with parents to target and provide services basecd on student needs.
  • Coordinate and arrange volunteer background checks for any volunteer.
  • Clean up any school areas used, including bathrooms. Remove and dispose of trash on a daily basis.
  • Complete instructor evaluations with instructors.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
